The bridge in this view is Cleveland's Detroit-Superior High Level Bridge, not a Detroit landmark, though its name comes from the Detroit Avenue approach on the city's west side. The record dates the photograph to February 17, 1916, when the high level crossing over the Cuyahoga valley was taking shape and linking the west side with downtown Superior Avenue. Photographer Gus A. Fretter of Cleveland made the image, and it is worth looking at for the scale of the steel structure against the valley and the winter setting.
