Few junctions in south-central Pennsylvania mattered more to the Union war effort than Hanover Junction, where the Hanover Branch met the Northern Central Railroad in York County. The view shows the station there in 1863, when the region became a corridor for armies and supplies during the Gettysburg campaign. The caption credits Matthew B. Brady or one of his assistants, but the card carries no date, so the year rests on the title alone. Rail stations like this one show how quickly the war turned small crossings into vital points of supply.
