The title names a particular fruit, the Genatin apple, an older variety whose name suggests it was grown for a specific local market. Dated to about 1909, the print comes from a decade when American orchardists were sorting their stock into named varieties and when photographs of fruit growing often served agricultural bulletins, trade publications, and exhibits. The subject headings point to apples, apple trees, and harvesting, which places the scene in the autumn picking season, when fruit was gathered by hand for storage and shipping. The focus on the harvest itself, rather than the fruit alone, is what is worth noticing here.
