Signed and dated March 22, 1943, with the note "Best wishes from your congressman," this head-and-shoulders portrait shows William Robert Poage, who represented Texas's 11th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Poage, a Democrat from the Waco area, served in Congress for decades, and the portrait was made by Mickle, a Waco studio. Halftone prints like this one could be reproduced in quantity, so a representative could send supporters a personal-looking card during the Second World War.
