The title, *An Exciting Finish*, points to the climax of a race, and this 1884 color lithograph focuses on the jockeys who carried it to the line. J. Cameron signed the stone at lower left, and the print was copyrighted that year by Currier & Ives of New York, a firm that sold inexpensive color prints to a broad American public. Horse racing drew large crowds in the 1880s, and sporting prints like this one brought the track's excitement into homes that could never attend a meeting in person.
