The poster's caption sets the joke: a group of women who share "stockings, lipstick, frocks" but not their men. *Free, Blonde and 21* was a 1940 20th Century-Fox release directed by Ricardo Cortez, a former silent-era leading man who had moved behind the camera. The lineup, led by Lynn Bari and Mary Beth Hughes and including comedian Joan Davis, shows how studios of the period promoted an ensemble cast alongside their stars. The color offset lithograph was printed by Joseph H. Tooker Litho. Co., a firm that produced many film posters in this era.
