The Bisbee Building and Banker's Row stretch of Jacksonville, Florida, was a cluster of financial offices in the early 1900s, when the city's downtown was still rebuilding. A fire in 1901 destroyed much of the central business district, and the masonry commercial blocks that went up afterward shaped the streets seen here. The picture is an 8 by 10 inch glass plate negative made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its large catalog of city and travel views taken across the country before 1915. The storefronts, signs and street details show how the district presented itself to visitors and investors.
