Few pictures in the Detroit Publishing Company files are as plainly agricultural as this view of a Michigan cornfield, catalogued under number 034593. The company, based in Detroit, sold photographic views of towns, rail lines, resorts and countryside around 1900, and its photographers often worked with large glass negatives like this 8 by 10 inch plate. The record notes that the paper jacket has stuck to the emulsion side and that a duplicate negative exists. The plate came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
