A director's room at the Glazier Stove Company in Chelsea, Michigan, gives an unusual view of the front office behind a manufacturing firm. Chelsea is a small village west of Ann Arbor, and the presence of a fireplace in this room fits the company's line of heating products. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative sometime between 1900 and 1910, photographed factories, towns and commercial spaces across the country, often for promotional use. The picture is worth a close look for its record of how an executive space was arranged in the early twentieth century.
