The record places this view inside the lamp stove department of the Glazier Stove Company in Chelsea, Michigan, a small manufacturing town west of Ann Arbor. Glazier was one of the stove makers that gave the town its industrial identity in the early 1900s, when cast iron heating and cooking stoves were a major American product. The Detroit Publishing Company made this 8 by 10 inch glass plate negative between 1900 and 1910, a period when the firm documented factories, towns and scenery across the country. Interior views like this one show how such workrooms were arranged during the years before mass assembly methods changed the industry.
