Rivermouth Landing sits where the Piscataqua River meets the sea at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and this scene shows the working waterfront that once shaped the city. Portsmouth was settled in the 1620s and grew into a busy port, with wharves handling cargo, fishing boats, and coastal trade. Strong tidal currents at the river mouth made the harbor valuable but demanding for the sailors who worked it. The view is a useful reminder of how much of New England's early economy depended on its rivers and docks.
