The dates printed across this poster, 1833-1933, tie the Century of Progress International Exposition to the hundredth anniversary of Chicago's incorporation as a town. Designer Weimer Pursell created this color silkscreen for the fair's opening season on the lakefront, when the city hoped the exposition would draw visitors and lift spirits during the Depression. Printed by the Neely Printing Co. in Chicago, the poster shows the bold, flat color and graphic simplicity that screen printing brought to American exhibition advertising in the 1930s.
