Labeled simply "A Chinese family" on its caption card, this stereograph is filed under China and family groups. Keystone View Company, a Pennsylvania firm that issued stereo cards for home viewers in the early twentieth century, produced cards like this one. Each card held two nearly identical photographs meant to be seen through a hand viewer, which fused them into a single image with a sense of depth. The record notes that its data is unverified, so the sitters and exact setting remain uncertain, but the card shows how commercial travel imagery shaped American views of China around 1931.
