Looking up the narrow walls of The Flume in Franconia Notch, this view shows a natural granite gorge in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where a wooden footbridge crosses high above the stream bed. By around 1907, the Flume had drawn tourists for decades, and visitors often came by stagecoach or rail to walk its boardwalks. The print is a glass dry plate negative made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its many views of American scenic and resort destinations in that period.
