A workplace notice, rather than a worker or machine, is the focus of this 1916 view of the Pocasset Mill in Fall River, Massachusetts. Lewis W. Hine made the picture for the National Child Labor Committee, which sent him to document conditions in American factories and mills. Fall River was then one of the country's major cotton-textile centers, and the posted notice offers a quiet glimpse of the rules and communications that shaped daily life for mill employees.
