A Polish boy named Willie, one of the young spinners at the Quidwick Co. mill in Anthony, Rhode Island, is shown taking his noon rest curled up in a doffer box among the spinning machinery. Doffers pulled full bobbins from the frames, a job that kept child workers on their feet through long shifts. The picture dates to April 1909 and carries a caption card from the National Child Labor Committee, which used photographs like this to document children working in American industry. Attribution to Lewis Hine rests on the picture's provenance rather than a signature.
