Three mill boys pitch pennies on a Fall River, Massachusetts, street in the afternoon, and Lewis Hine noted their own words: one sweeps, one was let go for not being fast enough, and one is just "hangin' around." Hine made pictures like this for the National Child Labor Committee to document young workers in the city's textile mills before federal child labor limits existed. The caption dates the scene to mid-June 1916, though a companion card gives a slightly different date.
