Looking west along the beach at Worthing, a seaside resort on the south coast of Sussex, this view shows the sand stretching toward the town's edge. The print is a photochrom, a color process that reproduced photographs through several hand-prepared lithographic stones, and the Detroit Publishing Company issued it in its catalog of English views for American buyers. The catalog is dated 1905, but the photograph itself was probably made in the 1890s, when Worthing was growing as a popular holiday destination.
