The poster's most distinctive feature is its facsimile signature, "Very truly yours Charles B. Harford," which presents the actor's name as if written by hand, though the title spells it Hanford. Charles B. Hanford was an American actor known for Shakespearean and other classical roles, and he toured widely with his own company in the early 1900s. Posters like this were printed in quantity so theater managers could paste them up along a tour route, and the Russell-Morgan Print firm of Cincinnati and New York was one of the major American shops making color lithographs for the stage at the time.
