Tipis rising from the ground in an advertisement for a Sheboygan footwear company set this poster apart from the many trade images that show factories and storefronts. Sheboygan, a Lake Michigan port in eastern Wisconsin, was known for its leather and boot and shoe manufacturing, which sold to markets well beyond the state. Advertisers of that era often borrowed frontier and Western imagery to suggest toughness and durability, and the tipis here follow that convention. The poster shows how a regional manufacturer used romantic outdoor scenes to sell everyday work footwear.
