Children tossing rings at a peg on the deck of the steamer Comus make up the subject of this 8 x 10 inch glass negative, a glimpse of simple leisure aboard a passenger vessel. A cataloger, not the photographer, supplied the title, so the exact location and occasion are not recorded. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this plate sometime between 1900 and 1920, photographed American cities, resorts and transportation for sale, and its large glass negatives preserve fine detail in clothing and deck life. The plate came to the Library of Congress as a gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
