Little is recorded about this steamer beyond its name, which the cataloger supplied because the glass negative carries no original caption. It belongs to the Detroit Publishing Company collection, a commercial firm that produced many American views in the early twentieth century. Steamboats were a common subject for such photographers because passenger and freight steamers carried much of the travel and trade on rivers, lakes and coastal waters before highways and railroads reached many towns. The 5 x 7 inch glass plate was a 1949 gift to the Library of Congress from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
