A winding footpath cuts through the trees of Niagara Glen, a wooded gorge on the Canadian side of the river, a short distance below the falls. The picture was made around 1898 by the Detroit Photographic Company, whose photochrom process turned black-and-white negatives into color prints by hand-coloring lithographic stones. The company made albums like this one as a catalog for its own office, so the image shows both the scenery and the firm's commercial work at the height of its popularity as a source of tourist views.
