Niagara's Horseshoe Fall, the crescent-shaped cataract on the Canadian side of the river, is the subject here, shown in a color photochrom from the Detroit Publishing Company. The company, based in Detroit, produced these hand-tinted prints using a lithographic process that layered many stone impressions to mimic color, and it sold them widely to tourists and publishers around 1900. Photochroms like this one were prized as souvenirs of the great waterfall, which by then drew large crowds from across North America and Europe. The print's number, 50208, and its copyright deposit record help place it within the company's large catalog.
