Four young men, identified in the record only by the surnames Crimms, Bushnell, Childs and Sears, sit together in this group portrait made in New Haven, Connecticut. Its catalog entry places it between 1889 and 1895, a stretch when Yale students commonly had studio portraits made with classmates and friends. The picture appears on page 28 of an album of Yale views, which suggests it was kept as a souvenir alongside images of the campus and its surroundings. Because the sitters' first names and roles are not recorded, the photograph is best read as a glimpse of undergraduate life in that period.
