This cabinet card shows Abraham Flexner in a head-and-shoulders pose turned to the left, made by Klauber, a photographer and art dealer in Louisville, Kentucky, where Flexner was born in 1866. Years later he became one of the most influential figures in American education, and his 1910 report for the Carnegie Foundation helped reshape medical training by tying schools to laboratory science. The mounted cabinet format was the standard studio portrait of the 1890s and 1900s, typically kept in family albums and given as keepsakes.
