Chicago's Coliseum, a large exhibition hall on the South Side near Wabash Avenue, hosted this automobile show in 1907, when the city was the second-largest in the United States and a center of rail freight, meatpacking, and wholesale trade. Carriage and wagon makers were giving way to motorcars, and the show drew dealers, buyers, and curious city residents who could see the newest models under one roof. Automobiles were still expensive and mostly bought by wealthy families, though a growing middle class was beginning to take an interest. Chicago's streets were crowded with horse-drawn streetcars, delivery wagons, and pedestrians, so the new machines were a visible sign of change in how the city would move.
