A color lithograph of a post office, this sheet presents a building as one piece of a larger imagined city rather than as a standalone structure. It appears as plate 7 in *A Modern City*, a set of designs by the French architect Rob Mallet-Stevens, published in London by Benn Brothers around 1922. Mallet-Stevens was known for clean, geometric modernism, and his work of this period helped shape the look of the new civic buildings that European cities were beginning to plan after the First World War. Viewed now, the print shows how architects of the 1920s imagined public infrastructure as an expression of modern life.
