A color lithograph of a railway station, this plate is the ninth illustration in *A Modern City*, a set of architectural designs by the French architect Rob Mallet-Stevens. Published in London by Benn Brothers in 1922, it presents a station as one part of a planned modern city rather than as a standalone building. In the early 1920s, many European architects imagined rail hubs as central to urban life, and designs like this one reflect the period's interest in clean geometric forms, open circulation, and transport as a source of architectural form. Plates from such volumes were often circulated among architects and students as a way of studying new ideas.
