This color lithograph shows a covered market hall, titled "Halles," drawn as plate 8 in Rob Mallet-Stevens's *A Modern City*, published in London by Benn Brothers around 1922. Mallet-Stevens was a French architect who worked in the modernist style, and his proposals for a planned city reflected the postwar interest in rebuilding urban life around clean lines and new materials. Market halls like this one were central to how cities organized commerce and daily supply, so the design also speaks to ideas about how a modern town should function.
