This ink and gouache drawing gives a perspective view of an art gallery interior at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Its colored washes were meant to show how a finished room would look, not just its layout, which made such drawings useful to designers and to the builders who had to realize them. The item is a reference copy held in the Prints and Photographs Division, and it belongs to the Library's architecture, design, and engineering drawings. The Library's buildings on Capitol Hill were planned with large decorative interiors meant to display art and learning, so the drawing is worth studying for the way it presents the room's proportions, lighting, and ornament.
