This lithograph pairs a campaign slogan about the gold standard with the names of William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, the Republican ticket in the 1900 presidential election. The gold standard was the central economic question that year. Republicans backed it, while the Democratic nominee, William Jennings Bryan, campaigned for free silver, so the print turns a monetary policy dispute into a direct choice between the two tickets. Roosevelt, then governor of New York, had been nominated for vice president that summer, and he would take the presidency after McKinley was assassinated in September 1901.
