Parker and Davis were the Democratic ticket of 1904, nominated to run against the incumbent Theodore Roosevelt. Alton B. Parker was a New York judge and chief judge of the state's Court of Appeals, and his running mate, Henry G. Davis, was a West Virginia senator and businessman who was then 80 and the oldest vice presidential nominee in the party's history. This campaign piece is a reminder of how the 1904 race was fought, with the Democrats presenting a conservative, legally minded alternative to Roosevelt's reform-minded Republicans. Roosevelt won the election by a wide margin, carrying the popular vote with about 56 percent.
