This view shows Madison Square Garden in New York as it was being readied for a horse show, the kind of event the arena hosted for decades. Horse shows drew wealthy exhibitors, dressage and jumping competitions, and large crowds to the hall. The photograph is a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of work made by the Bain News Service, a New York picture agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century.
