Taken at Madison Square Garden in 1911, this glass negative records a horse show at the arena, which hosted the National Horse Show for decades after it began in 1883. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency founded by George Grantham Bain, produced and captioned the image, and its title was recorded from the agency's own notes rather than checked against other sources. Such pictures were made to be sent to newspapers and magazines, so they show the fashionable crowds and equestrian displays that drew attention in the city at the time. The 8 by 10 inch glass plate preserves fine detail for close study.
