The Old Bridge at Stirling crosses the River Forth at the edge of the town, a stone span whose medieval core stood above the water for centuries. It was the site of the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, when William Wallace's forces defeated an English army on the crossing. Later traffic moved to newer bridges nearby, leaving the old structure to pedestrians. This color print was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which issued photochrom views of Britain and Europe in the 1890s and early 1900s using a Swiss process that layered several printed colors over a photographic base.
