Few views of this stretch of Fifth Avenue pair a church and a hotel so directly, and this one shows the Marble Collegiate Church beside the Holland House. The Holland House, which opened near 30th Street in 1891, was one of the grander hotels of its day and was demolished in 1936. The picture is a photochrom, a color process of Swiss origin that the Detroit Publishing Company used widely to produce colored views of American cities around 1901.
