The line "I'll pay for it!" printed on this sheet points to a moment from Bartley Campbell's melodrama *Siberia*, a play built on exile, poverty and theft in the Russian penal regions. Campbell wrote a string of stage melodramas that toured American theaters in the 1880s, and this 1900 lithograph was made by the Russell-Morgan Print Company of Cincinnati and New York to advertise a production under the direction of W.J. Fielding. The subject tags for robbery, charity and the poor show how the play leaned on sympathetic outcasts and stolen goods, a formula that touring audiences of the period expected from melodrama.
