Rather than a candid scene, this glass negative records a painting by Albert Worcester, as the cataloger's note indicates, so the woman at her bath is an artist's composition, not a moment caught by the camera. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made the plate sometime between 1900 and 1915, photographed landscapes, towns and works of art alike, and its glass negraphs now form part of the Library of Congress collection. Reproducing paintings in this way allowed images of artworks to reach viewers who would never see the originals. The large 8 by 10 inch plate gives the reproduction a good deal of detail.
