The French Lick Springs Hotel, shown here from a view that puts its domed tower on the left, was one of the best-known resorts in southern Indiana in the early 1900s. The town of French Lick drew visitors for its mineral springs, and this large hotel was built to serve the health seekers and vacationers who arrived by rail to take the waters and stay in style. The glass negative dates from between 1900 and 1915, a period when the Detroit Publishing Company was photographing American towns, hotels and landscapes for color prints sold to travelers. The light buff yellow walls with gray trim give the building a soft, airy look worth noticing in the image.
