Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck, the German commander in East Africa, anchors this 1918 poster, which asks the public to contribute to a donation drive for colonial fighters. Berlin's Rotophot A.G. printed it as a color lithograph, with the artist credited as Grotemeyer. Lettow-Vorbeck's force fought a long campaign in the African bush while the main war was fought in Europe, and it did not surrender until late November 1918, weeks after the armistice. The record also lists horses among its subjects, a reminder of how much the campaign depended on animals and supply.
