The title on this 8 by 6 inch glass negative, Union Garage, was supplied by the National Photo Company on the negative or its sleeve, and it has not been independently verified. The plate dates from roughly 1910 to 1926, a period when motorcars were becoming a familiar sight on American streets and garages were multiplying to serve them. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Streaks and other blemishes on the surface come from the gradual deterioration of the original coatings, which is common in glass plates of this age.
