A group of men gathered under the banner of the Army & Navy Union, a veterans' organization, is the subject of this 8 by 6 inch glass negative. The title comes from a note the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and it has not been independently verified. The Washington, D.C., firm photographed civic life, government events and local organizations in the early twentieth century. The date is an estimate based on neighboring negatives, placing the image between 1918 and 1928, and visible streaks and blemishes come from natural deterioration of the original coatings.
