The title, supplied by the National Photo Company and not independently verified, points to a group portrait of the Georgetown University medical school in Washington. The company worked in the capital in the early twentieth century, recording institutions, government offices and street life, and posed group portraits were a staple of its work. Glass negatives of this size hold fine detail but are fragile, and this one shows streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of its original coating. Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947.
