Interior views of automobile garages were a common subject for commercial photographers in the years after World War I, when car ownership was spreading quickly. This 8 by 6 inch glass negative, titled *Gish Garage, interior*, was made by the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm that documented the city and surrounding region from the early 1900s into the 1930s. The title and the 1919 or 1920 date are unverified, drawn from notes on the negative sleeve and from neighboring negatives in the same range. Viewers should also notice the streaks and blemishes across the plate, which reflect natural deterioration of the original coating.
