This interior is identified on the negative sleeve as the work of Sterrett & Flemming, though the title is unverified. The National Photo Company, which operated in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, produced large numbers of glass negatives documenting buildings, streets and commercial spaces, many of which were sold as souvenir views. This example falls roughly between 1921 and 1922, based on other negatives in the same range, and it came to the Library of Congress as a gift in 1947. Look for the streaks and blemishes across the plate, which result from the natural deterioration of the original coatings rather than from the scene itself.
