A family portrait dated September 15, 1922, this image records the Mondells on a single afternoon, preserved on glass. The National Photo Company worked out of Washington, D.C., from about 1907 to 1932, supplying newspapers with portraits and news pictures of officials, visitors, and city life. Because the plate is a glass negative, its surface shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of the original coating. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
