Few recruiting posters stretch as far as this one, which measures about 16 by 74 centimeters and was issued as number 118 in the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee's numbered series. The committee was formed in 1915 to encourage voluntary enlistment before Britain introduced conscription in 1916. Designed by Gerald Wood and printed in color lithograph by Beck & Inchbold of Leeds and London, the poster's title promises a crowd of men marching together toward the front, a message of camaraderie meant to draw hesitant men into the ranks.
