Taken from the east, this view sets the Statue of Liberty against the open water of New York Harbor, a vantage that shows the full figure rising from its pedestal. The statue was dedicated in 1886 as a gift from the people of France, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, with an internal iron framework engineered by Gustave Eiffel. The print carries a copyright line naming S.R. Stoddard of Glens Falls, New York, a photographer and publisher of American views, and the caption card dates it to about 1890, though that date is unverified.
