Along Alaska's sheltered seas, reads the caption, and this lithograph presents the Inside Passage as a calm voyage between mountains. Sydney Laurence, a painter best known for his Alaska landscapes, is credited with the image, which the Alaska Steamship Company of Seattle published to promote its passenger service north along the coast. Posters like this were part of a wider effort in the 1920s and 1930s to draw tourists to the territory, when steamship travel was a major route for visitors.
